A specialist Chinese university seeks a UK university partner for short-term training programme in the UK for undergraduate students in policing studies

Opportunity

Shanghai Police College (SPC) is looking for a UK university partner to develop and deliver a two-week training programme in the UK for a group of 20 undergraduate students accompanied by two lead teachers from SPC in policing studies. The programme should be two weeks (10 days for lecturing) in length and based in the UK, preferably from 26 November to 7 December 2018.

The participant students who will be selected by the SPC are studying policing studies as their second majors alongside bachelor’s degrees in other subject areas, with a minimum English proficiency level of IELTS 6.0.

Requirements for the training programme

The UK partner should be experienced in delivering training courses and practical training sessions on policing studies, and will be expected to design and deliver a suitable two-week (10 day) training programme for 20 undergraduates in the field of policing studies, including the below content:

  • overview of the UK’s policing system
  • understanding policies and procedures for community policing, traffic policing, public order policing, anti-terrorism and cybercrime
  • management of public security, crisis and incidents, and firearms
  • practical skills in criminal interviews, forensic and crime scene investigation, and crisis and hostage negotiation
  • field trips and visits for practical learning, including onsite visits to local police departments and police stations, community policing services etc.

Additional requirements
The UK partner will also be expected to provide:

  • accommodation (preferably economic standard or 3-star hotel standard twin rooms with 2 single beds and 2 breakfasts, within walking distance of the campus if possible)
  • three meals a day (including arrangements for weekend meals)
  • field trips and onsite visits for practical learnings, including visits to local police departments and police stations, community policing services and etc.
  • extra-curricular activities and cultural visits (excluding tours to London, Cambridge and Oxford)
  • airport pick up on arrival only and local daily travel/commuting arrangements 
  • a letter of invitation to support the visa application process
  • a certificate of completion for each participant and a closing ceremony at the end of the training

Responsibilities of Shanghai Police College (SPC)

SPC will be responsible for:

  • selection of all 20 participants for the programme from SPC, with the agreed level of language proficiency (IELTS 6.0)
  • designating two lead teachers to coordinate the training process in the UK
  • arrangements for participating students’ UK visa applications, international air-tickets and travel insurance
  • supporting prospective UK training providers to go through the government tendering process and financial arrangements
  • providing pre-departure briefings, guidance and support for all prospective students as part of the programmes

The training proposal should include a sample schedule for two weeks (10 training days) and CVs of key trainers designated for this training programme.

The quotation of the programme should include specific financial and programme arrangements for 20 delegates: training fees, insurance (if applicable), all related expenses for cultural activities, excursions and onsite visits. Please kindly exclude the fees for international air-tickets, visa applications and travel insurance.

  • for transportation, please include airport transfer services (only airport pick-ups) and daily travel costs
