Malaysia: Local private university looking for franchise partners

A local private university is looking for UK institutions to partner to deliver 3+0 and 2+0 franchised programmes in four subject areas. These subject areas include:

  • Engineering (at the BEng level)
  • Business and Management
  • IT
  • Music

Note: The Malaysian Qualifications Authority (MQA) has a somewhat new regulation where all TNE partnerships should be established only with foreign universities which are ranked at the top 5% of the world rankings. This will be one of the considerations in assessing the potential UK partner.

In addition to franchise agreements, the institution is also looking for articulation partners for their Foundation level students in these subject areas:

  • Arts
  • Commerce
  • Science

The institution would like to have their foundation programme modules reviewed and assessed so that their students would be able to articulate into their partner university's undergraduate degree programmes.

The university has a group of colleges under them, located in 4 cities around Malaysia. These franchised programmes are to be delivered in these colleges. Currently, the university and its group of colleges has over 25,000 students - Malaysians and non-Malaysians inclusive - completing their programmes in eight subject areas. In the most recent SETARA 2017 ratings, the university was rated 4-stars.
