Join the British Council Higher Education Sector Group

The British Council is seeking members to join its external Higher Education Sector Group (HESG).  Chaired by the UK International Education Champion Sir Steve Smith, the Group advises and influences how the British Council’s Higher Education (HE) strategy is developed and implemented, and how this benefits the UK HE sector and providers with their international endeavours. It will bring constructive challenge to ensure the British Council’s HE activities are results-driven, support the wider strategic objectives of the sector and support the priorities of the UK’s International Education Champion. The position is unremunerated, and candidates will be invited to serve an initial three-year term.

The objectives of the group are to:

  • create links between the British Council and the communities within the HE sector for whom our work has particular relevance;
  •  act as an advocate for the British Council’s work in HE;
  •  advise on the development of the British Council’s HE strategy and programmes, including through offering insights and identifying new opportunities and trends;
  • provide robust feedback and guidance on whether the programmes that are intended to support the UK HE sector are achieving that goal, and how they could be improved;
  • serve as a channel for professional advice within the areas of expertise represented on the group.

 Candidate profile

Members will be senior professionals with experience of international education from a wide range of recognised and listed higher education providers (HEPs) in all four nations of the UK.

The British Council seeks to secure a complementary range of experience and knowledge, including in international student mobility and marketing, global research and engagement and transnational education.
