China Focus: Employability in Practice Workshop

The British Council China is hosting a graduate employability training workshop in London on Monday 25 February. The workshop is part of the China Focus training series and will explore how UK institutions can better support their Chinese graduates employability. The training is aimed at colleagues who work in the international, careers and alumni offices of UK universities.

Recent British Council research that explored the perceptions of local and international employers who recruit overseas graduates confirmed that an overseas university education does have its advantages when graduates return to China. However, some employers felt returning graduates struggled to assimilate into the local market, with mismatched expectations and hard skills. The research highlighted that more work could be done by UK institutions to better prepare Chinese graduates for returning to their domestic job market.

This training workshop has been designed to support UK institutions in developing tools to support their Chinese graduates and will include:

  • analysis of the latest Chinese graduate employability market trends
  • tips and advice for supporting returning Chinese graduates from experienced Chinese HR professionals
  • best practice from UK institutions on supporting Chinese graduates

Benefits to UK institutions

  • develop your understanding of the latest trends in the Chinese graduate job market
  • receive advice and guidance from HR specialists based in China on the required skills and experience necessary for a returning graduate to succeed in the job market
  • develop suitable mechanisms to support your Chinese graduates’ employability prospects
