Change in the teaching profession is inevitable, but what form it will take remains open to debate. Will teachers be left on the sidelines as students increasingly manage their own learning? Or will they take on increasingly demanding roles as they integrate new and innovative approaches to teaching and learning? Will the classroom, lecture theatre and traditional notion of education space - schools and universities - be usurped either by the computer screen and online and distance learning, or by real-world settings, such as the workplace or the concert hall?

The debate will follow a classic format with three panellists speaking for the motion and three against the motion. Each will have seven minutes to present their case, before the chair invites the audience to put their questions to the panel, and to decide the outcome via a vote.
