Candidates can now apply for 2024 LPDP scholarships

The LPDP scholarships for 2024 are now open for applications from potential scholars.

There will be two windows for candidates to apply - the first is from 11 January to 11 February, and the second is from 19 June to 18 July 2024.

There are now 58 UK universities on LPDP’s list of overseas university partners, up from 47 last year.

Scholarships are grouped into three categories - General, Targeted and Affirmative. Each category is broken down further into several sub-categories (see spreadsheet below).

New this year

  • The most notable additions to this year’s list of university partners are specialist providers in performing arts, such as Guildhall School Music & Drama, Royal Academy of Music, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance. In addition to performing arts, sports science is also a new subject area of interest to LPDP. Loughborough is a listed sport science provider in all three categories (General, Targeted & Affirmative).
  • Indonesia-China scholarships on metallurgy and material sciences (offered in 2022 and 2023) are no longer offered.
  • Bournemouth, Cardiff, Cranfield, Plymouth and Newcastle universities are no longer listed as providers under Regular Scholarships (a sub-category of General Scholarships). Meanwhile, Aberdeen, City University of London, Liverpool, Nottingham and Manchester School of Architecture are no longer on the Affirmative Scholarships list.
  • Leeds and Nottingham have been moved from Regular Scholarships for certain subjects to Regular Scholarships for all subjects, opening them up to a wider group of potential scholars and students, and giving them more flexibility and opportunity when conducting student recruitment activities.

Recommendations for the UK higher education sector

  • UK universities on LPDP’s 2024 list should make this clear in their marketing collateral.
  • Universities on a Targeted Scholarships list are encouraged to check their alumni database for those currently working in Indonesia’s civil service, and to engage with them about postgraduate study opportunities. The majority of beneficiaries of Targeted Scholarships are civil servants.
