New kid on the block: Netherlands is becoming an increasingly attractive study destination for international students

A study conducted by international research firm i-graduate on behalf of Nuffic shows number of students from countries such as Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, and Turkey are choosing to pursue higher education in the Netherlands.

For students of these countries, Netherlands is seen as an open and internationally-oriented society with a high standard of living and high quality of education. With regards to employment, the study claimed that more than one third wanted to do an internship while in the Netherlands and 29% students exclaimed their willingness to stay in the country after completing their studies. 81% believe they would have a “very good” chance of staying in Netherlands after graduating.

Clearly one of the attractive qualities about this country is its potential to have students continue to live and work in Netherlands after completion of studies. But will that be enough to pitch Netherlands as one of the competitor countries for international student mobility?
