Hong Kong JUPAS Result 2018: More than 80% of applicants have gained one of their top 3 course choices

According to the Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS, equivalent to UCAS), there are a total of 16,538 DSE candidates being offered of a place at an undergraduate course by a local university. 13,723 applicants (around 83%) have obtained one of their top 3 course choices, which is approximate 4% increase compared with last year

The JUPAS statistics showed that nearly 50% of JUPAS applicants (23,346 out of 46,703) have been given an offer at the main round offer stage. Local associate degree or higher diploma course providers have made an offer to 3,581 applicants. Meanwhile, there are 3,227 applicants have been made an offer at a bachelor degree course by self-finance higher education institutions under the Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions / Sectors (SSSDP)  scheme. Successful candidates will be eligible to receive between HKD41,000 (non-laboratory-based programme) and HKD71,700 (laboratory-based programme) per academic year.

In terms of the number of applications for the 2018-19 intake, some agents and local school representatives have fed back us that the number seems remaining similar than last year. However, due to shrinking population of DSE students, the rate of progression to a local undergraduate degree course is gradually increasing each year. As a result, more and more DSE students would choose to stay in Hong Kong instead. Candidates who didn’t obtain an offer of a place at any of their top course choices would then seek for foundation course information or wait for the A-level Result Day (Clearing) later this month to make their final decision. To some extent, this may also cause a knock-on effect for pathway programme providers in terms of student recruitment this year, said by one of the British Council trained agents.
