Grades and semester system to be introduced in Indian Universities

Following the meeting between state Education minister and HRD Minister Smriti Irani in first week of January 2015, the University Grants Commission has mandated the Universities to introduce a new grading system.

The new system will include choice-based credit system (CBCS) , under which student will do three type of courses- foundation, elective and core. Students will have an opportunity to choose subjects from other departments as well. This will pave the path towards increased and specialised knowledge on subjects typically unrelated to their discipline.
The new system will also stress on skill development and therefore include credit framework for skill development (CFSD).
