Government of West Bengal and British Council sign Memorandum of Understanding on education and cultural collaborations

The Government of West Bengal and the British Council have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), on 6 July 2018, to further educational and cultural cooperation between the UK and West Bengal.

The overarching MoU will focus on English language training across West Bengal’s school and higher education systems with an aim to encourage employability. The MoU also explores research collaboration and capacity building in higher education and cultural collaboration between the UK and West Bengal with an emphasis on skills and tourism.

Empowerment of women and girls, through education and employment, is a priority for both the UK and the Government of West Bengal. There are plans to hold a Commonwealth public policy dialogue in Kolkata, the capital city of West Bengal, in 2019.

The MoU has been developed to enable young people from both countries to realise their aspirations in education, skill development and arts and culture. The focus on higher education is expected to create internationalising opportunities at local HEI’s.
