British Council student data tools updated to cover data for the 2020/21 academic year and from alternative providers

We are pleased to announce that the student data tool on the British Council's Collaborate and Recruit Internationally website has been updated to cover the most recent data from the HESA Student Record and HESA Student Alternative Record, allowing UK higher education institutions to find information on international student enrolments in the 2020/21 academic year.

In addition to data for the most recently completed academic year, information on students studying at institutions reporting via the HESA Alternative Provider Student Record / HESA Student Alternative Record has been added to the tool for the period from 2017/18 to 2019/20. This supplements the data previously available for these years which only covered institutions reporting via the standard HESA Student Record. An additional field has been added to the data tool allowing users to filter by standard provider vs alternative provider status.

The British Council's HESA data tool allows users to filter data by multiple criteria - for example, to find the number of China-domiciled students studying marketing at a specific institution in a particular academic year. All figures are rounded according to the HESA standard rounding methodology. Access to this and other British Council data is now available free of charge to all UK higher education institutions that submit data via the HESA Student Record or HESA Student Alternative Record, by signing in to https://education-services.britishcouncil.org/ and clicking the "Higher Education student data" link. Institutions that do not already have access to this tool can sign up via https://education-services.britishcouncil.org/user/register .

In addition to data on mobile students, less detailed data on transnational education from the HESA Aggregate Offshore Record is also available. This data can be accessed by following the “EI Data Tool” link after signing into  https://education-services.britishcouncil.org/ and then clicking the “UK TNE data” link on that page. Again, data is only available for UK HEIs that submit data via the HESA Student Record or HESA Student Alternative Record.
