Employability skills in Southeast Asia and the needs of the new economy: The challenge for higher education

Date: 9 and 10 August 2012
Venue: Intercontinental Asiana Saigon
Corner Hai Ba Trung & Le Duan Blvd, District 1
            Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Partners: Ministry of Education and Training, Vietnam and Aston University, UK

In the current global business environment, nations demand much more from their higher education sectors.  With rapid development comes the need for more productive workforces, so graduates entering employment need the skills that business requires.  The Global Education Dialogue aims to bring greater understanding to the question of how higher education has adapted and must adapt to meet the needs of industry by producing better prepared graduates.  The forum will share research findings, examples of successful innovation and effective practice, and will provide delegates from industry, government and higher education with opportunities to engage critically and creatively in addressing the issue.  It is hoped that action plans for partnerships will result, and to encourage this, there will be opportunities to seek funding for proposals.

British Council commissioned market research: Skilled Labour Shortfalls in Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.
